When examining a picture, there are often numerous details that can be overwhelming, especially for beginners who may not have a clear objective of where to look.

Today, I will share four key indicators that you will commonly encounter in most pictures. These indicators will help you navigate the picture analysis process more effectively.

Why is it effective?

These are the blind spots that even the most seasoned detectives and the one who took the photo overlook.

In the realm of perception, what remains hidden cannot be fabricated. It holds the purest truth, offering answers with an astounding 99% accuracy.

1. Electrical outlet

Socket is arguably the best piece of information that you can look for. There are 15 types of domestic electrical outlet and plugs being used worldwide and matching the type of socket often narrow you down to 3 countries.

2. Light

Light also give you information about location with a little bit of deduction. There are 3 types of light: day light, sunset, nighttime. nobody wakes up at sunrise to take a picture for deduction (can’t be fabricated) so you don’t need to worry about this.

Countries in the equator has sunset at 6 pm, then goes up to the pole if summer and down if winter. A safe time to assume is usually 9pm at the topmost countries. Draw a line, separate equally then you can estimate where this picture was taken.

Artificial light can be safely assumed as nighttime but judge the situation for yourself.

3. Blanket

You can usually tell by just looking if this is a thin or a thick blanket, which translate to summer or winter time right now. This will give you information if the picture is in northern or southern hemisphere.

Combine with lighting and other clues, you can narrow down to countries group.

4. Cup

The cup or more precisely the handle of the cup is the oldest trick in the book, which gives you clue about the dominant hand. Sometimes the location of the cup can reveal dominant hand or habit too. When analyzing, imagine how the cup get to where it is, how did the hand swing, could it be left or right hand.

This is also one of the unique clue that give you information about habit and if there’s more than 1 person are living in this room (usually couples).

Glass is for cold drink and a cup is for hot drink (tea, coffee). 2 cups can either mean 1 or 2 people, but cups on 2 sides of the bed means 2 people.

5. The wall

The wall is a cultural piece of clue. Each country has different architecture style, hence different wall. There’s no guide on the internet regarding the wall, but by following the work, you’ll see the different wall texture and color choice match with some countries rather than others.

A common wall for the US is flat with neutral color. Indian wall has grain and can be more colorful (yellow, green,etc.)
