As he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, a commotion from his neighbor, Mrs. Anderson, caught his attention. “What’s going on, Mrs. Anderson?” he inquired. Her voice carried distress as she lamented, “I placed the ‘For Sale’ sign in front of my house just yesterday, and now, it’s vanished again! This has happened thrice this past week!” Determined to resolve the matter, Parrot set out to investigate further. He proceeded to the elegant abode of Mrs. Decker, known for her early-morning vigil by the living room window, where the smell of fresh paint still lingered. “I didn’t see who took the signs, but I suspect it was young Billy,” she revealed, pointing to the mischievous boy who often sought trouble. As Parrot strolled along the lane, he noticed a man with a moving truck unloading furniture into a nearby house. Curiosity piqued, he approached the man, hoping for a lead. “Are you our new neighbor?” Parrot inquired politely. The man chuckled, “Oh, no, I’m from a moving company. The owners of this house wanted some furniture brought in to visualize the layout.” Parrot continued his quest for information and questioned the driver about any sightings of the sign thief, but alas, the man had seen nothing. Moving on, he confronted young Billy, warning him that someone had witnessed him taking Mrs. Anderson’s sign. “I didn’t take any sign! I’ve been struggling to mow the lawn all morning. My dad will be furious if I don’t finish it,” protested the boy. Parrot glanced at the haphazardly mowed lawn, hinting that Billy’s alibi might not hold water.
