It was also a cold cold day, though the young Parrot was sweating uncontrollably, waiting for order from his supervisor. Lying on the floor was a witness for the murder in a gang fight. The trial date was a few days away, but the victim was then lying dead on the floor. The supervisor kicked the door and stomped in, left no room for Parrot to be surprised: “Why was he left alone in the first place, are you out of your mind?” “There was an order to switch and move back to the station immediately on police frequency, I thought.” “Well you thought wrong, the gang has so many dirty cops on their payroll, you should have known better”, the supervisor sighed, ” Who else have the key to this room” “I have the only key sir, and when I left, I told him to locked the door and don’t open to anyone, I even heard it locked behind me. There was no sign of breaking in” “I just put him in here a few nights ago and now he’s strangled to dead, I even brought the previous witness, Jake, to make him feel safer. The gang must have got to him then, come with me and call the station to check his phone record on the past few days.” Both Parrot and the supervisor grabbed the coat and hurriedly stepped into the blizzard outside. “The station called back with the result sir, the only one he called yesterday was his brother which is a locksmith, but he said he was working at 2pm when the victim was killed. The customer can give him his alibi.” The two knocked on Jake’s door. As soon as the door was opened, the supervisor busted in. “I know he got to you, did the mafia boss got you to do the killing? Answer me now” “What are you talking about?” Jake murmured shakily. “The witness, he’s dead” the supervisor yelled. “I don’t know anything about it, I was working the whole day yesterday, just ask anyone in my workplace.” The two got on the car once again as the story checked out. “There must have been a clue somewhere that we missed” Parrot kept thinking the whole way home.
